Powerful Families is a strengths-based, parent empowerment model for promoting family stability and security. Recognizing that poverty is one of the root causes of family instability, we help strengthen the ability of low-income parents to sustain healthy families.
Free Workshops
The program provides parents, kinship care providers, and foster care youth becoming legal adults with tools to advocate for the material and psychological needs of their families. Through free, fun workshops, they become better financial managers and more effective leaders and advocates for their families and communities.
Collaborating Partners
To ensure that our work has a broad and lasting impact, Powerful Families is a collaboration among several local and national partners throughout the country:
- Community- and faith-based organizations
- Child welfare organizations
- State governments
- Casey Family Programs
It takes a dedicated team of service providers to uplift communities in need. That's why Powerful Families joins existing community-based collaborations. We strengthen the relationships among the partners, maximize their positive impact, and support their efforts to establish sustainable practices. Read the Guidelines to learn more about the relationship between the Powerful Families team and our partners.
Program History
When Powerful Families first started, it was called Parent-to-Parent. Pilot results in New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, and Arizona found that parents felt the program helped them to:
- Manage their money
- Strengthen their social support and community bonds
- Feel more in control of their family
- Feel more confident in their parenting
